Default Opinions needed

I like this shot from last November, with 734 laying down a pretty impressive smokescreen. But, I can't help but get this thought in the back of my mind that they'll hit me with a PEQ because not enough of the engine is showing.

I'd appreciate your opinions on the matter.

The light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train. I have the pictures to prove it.

It's a toss-up as to acceptance. You will only know if you try.

That said, while there is stuff like about the shot, such as the smokebox and the steam, there is a lack of composition. The eye doesn't have a path to follow. If the sky was blue or orange or something, or a crew person on walkway that would help.

Your own shot here give the eye a lot of direction as to where to go:

Hi Paolo,

Steam cloud shots are definitely one of those "eye of the beholder" things. Dressed up (cropped and post processed) appropriately, it could be anything from an SC to a PEQ, depending upon the person who looks at it. I've seen "steam cloud" SCs here that just left me scratching my head and others that went unnoticed by both the Screeners and the audience that left me feeling the submitter had been robbed.

If you're on a winning streak and are looking to expand your horizons to something a little different, make a few versions, pick your favorite and submit. If you've had a few too many rejections lately, and are concerned about ending up in "upload jail", file it under future projects and find a brightly lit wedgie to get your average up. It's unfortunate, but sometimes, you have to "points race" instead of going for the win.

My RP stuff is here.

Link to my Flickr Albums. Lots of Steam Railroad stuff there from all over the US.

Those other pictures definitely have more contrast and detail than yours, try some photoshop magic on it.
