Default Stumped by rejection

I submitted a photo today that was taken after sunset. It was rejected for - Poor Lighting (Dark): The image is too dark. I appealed saying it's a night time photo it should be much darker than it is as submitted. So how can it be too dark if it's a night time shot? At times the screeners work with me a bit on a photo, not this time so I'm stumped as to what to do. I really think it's a good photo that can be accepted, somehow?

Here's the original

Actually, I like it. It is moody. There is enough ambient light to see the whole train, yet it is dark enough to generate the dark moodiness of the image.

Maybe you could have played with a longer exposure and not used the flash, which would eliminate the reflection on the reflective tape. But that would be just a matter of taste, the photo is pretty good either way. Sometimes the site criteria and screeners just seem wrong and a good photo gets rejected.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Probably not. It's a wedgie of common power. For that, you need practically perfect light. The lighting in this case, well...sucks. It would probably be best to just let this one go and try this shot again when the light's better.

Then it's funny if you do a little PS work.

The colors in your PS one are awesome. Red sky at night, sailors delight. Nice work.

Too dark for day, too bright for night.

Great shot, btw.

A little clarification: These kind of "cloudy day" shots from Southern California aren't always true cloudy day shots. Smog, June Gloom, and High Clouds are things that are common in this part of the country.

It was actually a real clear day, several other shots from that day made it, but it was a tad smoggy in the valleys.

Nice string of power nonetheless . . .

PS could save it for RPN, but it would not look anything like what you had in mind.

A quick question on appeals. Does the same screener get the appeal if one is sent or is it automatically given to another?

i think that may be or may be not as its depend on the time that which you appealed the pic in it .may be another screener get the appeal but is that matter?
also let us know what happened to your accepted picture.

Chris Starnes replied to a similar thread about this several weeks ago. I'm too lazy to go looking for it.

Basically, yes, the screeners get first say, and if it's appealed, it goes to either Chris K, Chris Starnes, and I think one or two other people and one of them makes the call.

That makes more sense then Hoydie17. One of my last appeals that was won Chris S said it should have not been rejected in the first place.

And my photo that got yanked was because it was too photoshopped, especially since they saw the original. No worries though.
