This is yet another classic example why it's always good to take a few "dry shots" before the train comes around. Look at them for exposure and see if they're okay. (This of course assumes you're shooting digital, and you've got time before the train arrives.)

Personally, since I use RAW format, I like to underexpose maybe by half a stop or so, since I can brighten it up sufficiently after the fact.

Ahhh yes, I remember those days. . . . . .

I still remember cutting and rolling my own film, countless hours in the darkroom. Bleah!!! Glad that's over.

Aye...its served its purpose for almost a decade now, but its time to go digital. Since I never got into developing my own film, there really isn't that nostalgia factor. For me, with digital cameras at the level they are now, there is no reason (at least for myself) to do film anymore.

Just an update. Found that Dell sells the Rebel XT. Since I have a preffered account with them (can finance instead of forking over the money all at once), I ordered one. Should be here Wed!

Aye...and my photos improve since I can see the immediate result, what I can do better and correct it on the spot.

You will love the Rebel . . . a nice unit. Even with such however the auto meter will or can read the dark part of a shot like this or the light . . . and overcompensate. All of you work will be better however with the new ride, way to go.

I know all of you are probably tired of seeing this thread, but I wanted to share that my Rebel XT came today!!!

I'm going to try it out this weekend while I'm up in VA. Gonna try and get a few shots of the VS. Shouldn't be hard. They don't run much so at the very least, I should be able to get shots of the locos in the yard.

Good luck with the new camera. Don't forget to get some extra memory as it is the "film" of the digital camera.

So I can still save for a wedding, I financed it with Dell. It will be paid off in no time though.
