3 rejects. Salvagable?
These 3 photos were rejected for Bad Motive. Should I consider appealing any of them? Thanks!

The second one...(big) maybe.
The first and third (especially) look blurry.

They're also a tad grainy, what ISO were you using? They look over-exposed too.

I'd let 'em go... get down in there with a tripod and get some night shots of a stopped train-that'd be good. (I'm not that big on special effects shots though. JMHO)

All 3 look like the victim of a little bit of camera shake. In the photo of the station, there's not really anything that says "this is a railroad station." I'd say it might just be best to file these under your PC.

Well, 1. I don't own a tripod. 2. I have been hasseled at this station for taking pictures before, so I think that by using a tripod, I would be more noticable. I tried making the concreate barrior a tripod. Didn't really work.
Thanks to all who replied.

Both 2 and 3 have a very nice "painterly" quality to them. Definately get a tripod (or at least a monopod) and try them again.

Without sounding like too much of an a** (its kinda hard being from NJ), but Wal-Mart can be your friend. They actually have fairly cheap tripods that should do the trick for you.
As far as the station not taking kindly to you taking pictures, as long as you're on public property, they can't do a thing (no matter what they might say. I refer you to the story of the two railfans at the Metra station in Chicago).

Well, I was on station property, is that public or property of the city/railroad?

If you're on a station platform or causeway where passengers load/unload or transit to and from the parking area to the trains, you are on public property.

okay, but there is a rule about no loitering, so couldn't I be charged with loitering since I'm not intending to board a train, and all I'm doing is just walking around the station taking pictures?

Do they have signs posted that say no loitering? If they do, then you'd probably need to be careful. If not, there's not then they really don't have a leg to stand on.

I wouldn't get too hung up about those spots anyway. It doesn't look like any of those vantage points are going to produce quality shots. Even with a tripod and perfect exposure, you've still got some unpleasant angles, and lots of clutter going on. I'd search for a better spot.

Does the NCTD own it? It is of utmost imprtance to try to avoid the palm trees that can inhibit your shot. I shy away from Solana Beach because it is a difficult station to shoot from.
Try the bridge on Via de la Valle. Of course, in daylight, as there aren't many streetlights.
