Default Gallery: Clouds

Don't limit your post to photos that you took. And remember, there's more than one way to get a cloud.

A couple from me...

Not much from here so far, I'll look more later.

I'm a simple man and simple puffy whites seem to make a shot a little more whole:

Looking through, I seem to have few shots where the cloud plays more than a passing part of the composition. I'm going to discount plumes here.

Probably my favorite cloud shot... hell struck down in some parts with baseball sized hail and tornado sightings.

BNSF tornado
Gust front

Then around my place... severe thunderstorms with hail again blasted the norhtland... the dispatcher ordered the train to stop and wait for the severe thunderstorm warning to expire. I got a shot of the power in a nice sucker hole a ways up the line.

Wowzers

Crimaniddly! How can you get that kind of Dynamic Range without bringing out excessive noise in clipped areas?

My personal favorite are cirrus clouds. They're thin enough that you don't have to worry about them blocking the sky, but give a lot of definition to the sky as well:

Selective processing. Quite simple when you're using layer masks in photoshop.

This looked like a Travis thread and yet so few Travis photos, even though he chimed in. Odd as a quick review through the database shows quite a large collections worthy of inclusion:
