Default A Plethora of Reasons

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...&key=411949897

- Bad Color: Not enough color depth or too much color saturation.

Totally not seeing it...

- Horizon Unlevel: Try leveling the image in your photo editing software.

Hmm... It is late, but I edited this (with grid) at 11AM yesterday...

- Undersharpened (Soft):

Easy fix.

- Bad Info: The locomotive/railroad/location or other data you entered for the photo is incorrect.

I've taken this matter off the forums and am discussing it in another place...

- Composition/Balance: The composition of this photo is poor relating to the overall balance of the image.

This, is where I'm slightly confused.. Maybe more off the right?

Thanks boys and/or girls for the assistance... If I don't reply it's because I've already gone off on my weekend getaway to the Feather River Canyon and there's no cell service (THANK GOD).

Cropping needs work, Drop some sky if you can. Trains a bit to far down in the shot for as high up as you are. Not having much luck with my shots of late, Mostly bad timing on the trains part for the light or air so thick you can't see 2 miles.

Color looks pretty bad. Look at the foliage; unless Valero is a big polluter you should see more green. (Of course, I know it pollutes, but the days of trees adjacent to property turning sickly are gone for the most part.) I decreased reds and it looks much better. If the color is due to a sunset, well then, all I can think of is that the colors created simply don't look good in this particular scene.

Crop: it seems awkward in a way I can't find words for. I get rid of the annoying thing lower right, and thus the tower (cracker? not recalling the terms for stuff in refineries) upper right also, but it still has the feel that the train is too low in the frame and needs some more space at the very bottom.

Looks level.

Just one more comment on the train ID, its there site, there rules. If you are really ticked, leave off the Train ID. But don't let it make you leave the site.

Again with the shady side...

I personally have had a problem with those trying to tell us to turn railroad photography into an "art form." It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

The horizon can be fixed easily. And you need more vibrant color in the image.

I liked the original as is, J's edit is a bit better colorwise since the shot was taken at around 7, dont quite get that much of the orange sunset glow yet at that time this time of year since you have another hour of light.
Id say it would work better with a freight train that could be seen around the curve, but nice shot nevertheless.
