Default Where have you been!?

Well boredom at work has taken its toll on me yet again. While sitting here day dreaming about my next few vacations, I came up with this poll. Where have you been? or more correctly how many states have you been to? Unfortunately, this is basically limited to those who live here or the few that have vacationed in the U.S. before. Basically it is self explanatory except for one catch. The poll is for how many states you have had a photo accepted from not just how many you have visited. You can put that in a response if you wish to. Hope this keeps a few people busy on this Monday afternoon.

Two.
Illinois
Arkansas
I don't get out much I guess.
Or maybe it's because my family isn't always willing to take me train places. Or, in the case of our last vacation(Ontario), it was because there weren't any good angles I could get the one train from. There is one I might have, but I need to work on it still. Other than that, I got pretty lucky on the two train ones I actually have from Cotter, Arkansas. Only a couple trains a day go through there, and we were just driving through.

One.

Too busy, too few weeks of vacation (2), too many responsibilities, and gas is too expensive. No bottomless pockets, or unlimited freedom here.

Post Script-

This thread should actually be titled:

How many photos have you had accepted that actually give a different sense of place from one state to the next? Do you think the viewer could identify the specific state within 4-6 tries?

Before we start to brag about how far we've traveled, I guess it may be worthwhile to check out our galleries while I mention that a tight 3/4 wedge appears no different if taken in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, or Michigan.

Even landscape photography has been known to trip even the most grizzled veteran of road trips. Virginia? West Virginia? Kentucky? Maryland? Pennsylvania? All are pretty mountainous the last time I checked.

C'mon, Chuck, this thread is supposed to be good-natured. Some folks' jobs actually require them to travel, so it's not a matter of "bottomless pockets" or "unlimited freedom," let alone does it mean that folks who have many states in the database aren't also busy, have limited vacation time, or have no responsibility. Your posts are coming off like sour grapes, but maybe it's just me...

Yeah, that does read like sour grapes.

I've got all of one state into the database, seeing as how I don't really get out to any place that isn't between school in Wisconsin and and home in Chicago, but I'm not bitter (especially seeing as how the Chicago area is one of the best railfanning spots in the country).

I would have a Wisconsin pic in the database, but it was rejected for bad noise before I knew how to deal with that (and I lost the original in a recent hard disk crash, so no second chances there).

Here it is though...

It doesn't seem like sour grapes to me, but I'm biased against the wedgie anyway. The only difference may be the railroad and that's it. A wedgie is a wedgie, regardless of how you look at it or what state it was taken in.

My post about sour grapes had nothing to do with wedgies...it was about taking shots in different states. My point was more to the fact that just because a person has shots from different states doesn't mean that person:

1) Isn't busy
2) Has unlimited vacation time
3) Has little or no responsibility that would preclude them from traveling and taking photos
4) Is wealthy

Wedge shots have nothing to do with it...

I have photos accepted from five states/provinces; Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Saskatchewan and Alberta. I have been to 18 states and 4 provinces, and have taken photos in most of those.

Being from California (originally) it takes almost a days drive to go from SoCal to NorCal...unlike you easterners ....if you go 2-3 hours in any direction you"ve traveled a half a dozen states! So most of, if not all of my meager submissions are from the Golden State.

Uh, but more often than not you'll find that someone under the age of 30 that has traveled extensively is fortunate to have possessed at least one, if not all, of the items listed above. Now, if I was middle-aged and I had shots accepted here from more than 20 states, that would be a different story. But I'm not middle-aged...YET. (Or am I middle-aged? If I am, it's all over, then)

Bitter and Grizzled at 35 and 3/4

(That, or I've had a bad run of rejections and denied appeals. Why do the appeals have to be so impersonal, anyway...the response is like your bothering someone to give a shot a second look? I don't really care for that...oh, well)

Well, for one, I'm under 30 and let me break it down:

1) Busy? Yep, until this friggin' terror war is over.
2) Limited vacation time? Not bad: 30 days/year, not taken consecutively though.
3) Responsibility. I think I have my fair share.
4) Wealthy? Yeah, right!

But then again, my job by definition is travel. Also, think about people who live on borders; they can jump around and back and forth and rack up a couple states like that...

I hear that! I really don't know how folks afford to travel nowdays. Just NJ and Pa. here.

Used to be I really wanted to go all over during the fallen flag era... but one GE looks like a GE whether in PA or Ca. That does put a damper on traveling. Not sour grapes here either, just the facts!

That's the main reason I'd like to do some traveling. I see pictures from people in the eastern states of the crazy power they have working out there. Old geeps and SDs and freak'n Alcos! Same goes for Minnesota, which is a place I'm more likely to get to in the near future. And not quite so far as either of those is the Indiana and Ohio system. I've been looking at pictures of it in the database, and there's all sorts of crazy old power running around on it.

I had time this summer to go out and look for stuff like that, but gas was so damn expensive. Now, gas will (hopfully) be coming back down, but I won't have any time. At least I'll be close to the home base of two functioning E-units.

I wonder how the Canadian's feel about being included as states (in at least one post)? Since Canada is a favorite railfanning location for many of us, how about broadening the poll to states & Provinces?

12 states, 2 provinces, 9 countries.

How about countries? Based on the shots posted, I would guess Michael Rhodes or Alan Crotty would be up there in double digits!
