The day's work done, a BNSF work train with a former ATSF GP35u backs into the Essex Yard for the night. To the right is the renowned Izaak Walton Inn, which was built in 1939 by the Great Northern Railway to house helper crews year around and snow removal crews during the long, harsh Rocky Mountain winters. The Inn is a wonderful "getaway" for railfans (or anyone for that matter!) and is also an Amtrak flag stop for the Empire Builder. If you come to visit, consider taking the train and eliminate all the hassles of driving!
