The two car CTA Historical Train threads its way out of Howard Yard at the north end of Howard Terminal. The Historical Car was to ferry delegates from the APTA convention(American Public Transit Association) on a special tour of the CTA Skokie Shops.
Built in the 1920s, these cars sported canvass covered roofs, trolley poles, and were nicknamed "Plushies" because of their green seats. THey survived into the late 1970s because they were needed for trolley pole operation on the Evanston branch. The CTA had long disposed of all other historic cars, but when Dah Mayor remarked at a station dedication..."These are real nice cars." he granted them permanent immunity.
