Of the hundreds trains I've photographed in Utah's Spanish Fork Canyon in the past 4 decades, this one has to be one of the most unusual. An odd series of circumstances and good luck have brought one of Kansas City Southern Railway's beautifully painted 'Southern Belle' ES44AC units to lead a BNSF Railway manifest along the former D&RGW between Denver, CO and Provo, UT. In this late in the day view, the QDVPVJ-28 emerges from the shadows of the Red Narrows of Spanish Fork Canyon approaching the crossover switches at CP Rio. I am very grateful for the conditions that came together to make this image possible.
