E60 #DPR-1 with a westbound loaded coal train on the Deseret Ry. is about a mile from the Utah/Colorado state line in this shot taken at Mormon Gap, Colorado. Mormon Gap is a narrow cleft in a hogback composed of steeply tilted Upper Cretaceous and Tertiary sandstones limestones and shales. Once through the gap, the train enters a different looking landscape, one composed of flat lying, multi-colored lake beds of Tertiary age. The train is at mile pole 21 from the Deserado Mine loadout and has about 13 more miles to go before reaching the Bonanza power plant.
