Winter storm clouds gather as the single line branch token is about to be collected at Brockenhurst Junction. Opened in 1858, the Lymington branch is single line throughout divergeing from the South West main line at Brockenhurst Junction running almost 6 miles to its terminus at Lymington Pier. Here, the traveler may catch the ferry to the Isle of Wight from where I was returning, having visited to see the last of the island's steam. The final steam trains on the island ran on the last day of December 1966.
