It's a good day for foamin', eh? White Pass & Yukon Route employees and guest photographers watch with anticipation as the company's rotary fleet attacks a deep drift in front of the station in Bennett, British Columbia. During the excursion season, Bennett is a lunch stop, where the railroad feeds the passengers on the all-day Carcross trips. This day, the focus was on opening the line for that season, which would begin little more than a week after this photo was taken. WP&YR Rail Operations Superintendent, Ed Hanousek had indicated to all of the guests that a big drift often forms in front of the station house and when we arrived, we indeed found one heck of a drift. The snow was not only deep, it was dense, like concrete. It took the fleet roughly a dozen thrusts to bust through this drift, which totally delighted the on-lookers and brought a round of applause when the plow finally broke through.
