On a sunny Sunday afternoon, Conrail INPE has just crossed the Illinois Central on the former NYC / Peoria & Eastern line between Indianapolis and Peoria. This diamond is just north of the Illinois Central yard in Champaign and the tower in the background was actually still active, although for not much larger. I had wanted to get a picture with this semaphore, and it was a good thing that I took this picture when I did. Just a few weeks later, the signal was replaced. This line was very low density with only the INPE/PEIN symbol freights that were often quite short. It's no surprise that this line is no longer active as a through route. While the track is still in place here, just east of Urbana, the track has been removed.
