Heading down the 4% grade of Cumbres Pass, a Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad photo freight pulled by Rio Grande-lettered K-37 No. 497, rolls past Coxo, Colorado. An early taste of winter greeted the train at Cumbres, and now dusk is settling in with the snow still coming down, only lighter. After a full day of photography, surely many of the train’s riders are ready for a good meal and some relaxation. Another dozen miles or so, and the train will be in Chama, New Mexico, where only a light rain and darkness will greet them.
