The Erie Mining Company was known for their F units hauling taconite pellets from their plant here in Hoyt Lakes to the dock at Taconite Harbor which was located on the shore of Lake Superior. Today, one of two remaining F9 (A) units (4210) and three B units (4223, 4225, and 4224) still on the property are parked just a little too close for comfort because they are within view of a contractors cutting torch. A contractor is currently working on cutting up the remaining Erie Mining, and later LTV Steel's, original 380 pellet car fleet built in 1956 by Bethlehem.
