FMG SD70ACe #705 has just been rolled out of the paint and finishing area and its paint appears as smooth as glass and you can still smell the fresh paint. On this beautiful afternoon the locomotive is beautifully displayed at the Progress Rail Locomotive Assembly facility in Muncie.
Typical of the Australian SD70ACe units you find plenty of safety apparatus. The red box just below the 'F' along the sill is a FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM controller. When the units arrive in Port Hedland they will be fitted with a pair of fire suppression tanks.
This unit has the bumpers above the cab windows for the window protection like the BHP units...but window protection is not installed on these units since they do not operate in DPU service. You can also see the separation between the cab and the tropical roof to keep the crew as cool as possible in the hot terrain that the road operates.
This locomotive is the proud product of Progress Rail Locomotive Assembly in Muncie, IN. This locomotive is available for pre-order from Overland Models in HO scale brass.
