Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority RDC-1 No. 6143 leads a northbound train out of North Station in Boston, Massachusetts, on July 25, 1986. MBTA’s de-engined RDCs were used as coaches and cab cars, and there’s no denying the heritage of this car, with Boston and Maine logos still nicely adorning the front.
The 70's and 80's were a transition period for the MBTA characterized by an eclectic mix of equipment including Budd RDC's, ex-New Haven stainless steel coaches, and a mix of motive power acquired from various railroads.
