UP's depot and hotel at Kelso, Calif. was placed on the Register of National Historic Places, and the trees were cut down, the sod, brick platform and lamps were ripped out and replaced with a steel fence by the time UP 3764 West, a unit coal train, was lined through the siding on March 2, 1994 (20 yrs. after the previous Kelso photo) The sand deposits by the rails indicate trains pausing there for crew refreshment.
