Movin' on. Having just taken water at the McEwen Tank, Engineer Eric Wunz eases Locomotive 19 and her mixed freight out of the yard to begin the roughly 20-mile eastbound run to Baker City. Oh, how we all wish that were still possible. Baker City was once the eastern terminus and headquarters for the Sumpter Valley Railway, but alas, the tracks to Baker were lifted in the late 1940s. The restored Sumpter Valley Railroad now runs only from Sumpter to McEwen. Unfortunately, Eric will be getting off the throttle and on the brakes in just a second or two, because the tracks dead-end just about 100 yards ahead of him.
