A CSX westbound passes though downtown Akron on the New Castle Subdivision, crossing under the University of Akron overpass. While this train is on former B&O trackage, the Erie/Erie Lackawanna at one time also operated through downtown Akron, running parallel to the B&O. The Erie/EL main occupied the space immediately to the left of the train in this view. The open area at far left (now a bank parking lot) once contained the platforms of Erie's Akron passenger station. With the demolition of Erie's Akron freight house in mid-2013 (behind me in this view), very little evidence remains of the Erie's presence in downtown Akron.
