Colorado & Southern 809 is rolling into Loveland with the local from Ft. Collins on a pleasantly warm November afternoon, 1958. The heavy U.S.R.A. 2-8-2 was, until recently, Chicago Burlington & Quincy O-4 5513, but two major wrecks have left C&S short of diesels for the annual sugar beet rush and heavy seasonal traffic in northern Colorado. And so to the delight of photographers, Burlington has sold four of these handsome 1919-built Baldwins to its Colorado subsidiary, where they will find work for a season or two.
