On June 7th, 1998, a pair of former Southern Pacific SD70Ms, 9820 and 9807, along with a Union Pacific SD60M, ease a UP freight downgrade at Bealville, in southern California's Tehachapi Mountains. Built in August 1994, SP 9820 served the SP for only two years and one month, as the merger with the UP on September 11th, 1996, saw these big EMDs become the property of "Uncle Pete."
