It is a rare site to see a steam locomotive in Staunton. In this case is former Canadian Pacific G5d that was run by the Virginia Central Railroad. In the early 1990s, Virginia Central Railroad ran excursions from Charlottesville to Clifton Forge, Virginia on CSXT. Due to insurance issues, the excursions ceased. Eventually the 1286 and sister 4-6-2 1238 were stored on a siding in Verona, Virginia on the SVRR.
Now the 1286 is waiting to be loaded on a flat car to be shipped to her new owners.
The Shenandoah Valley of Virginia boasts some impressive scenery and trains, some of the best in the state. This album is for all photos taken in the Shenandoah Valley.
