ENID OK March 26 1979 — Santa Fe SD45 5616 leads train CTB on Frisco tracks. EMD built the unit (s/n 36495) in June 1970 and delivered it in Bookends livery consisting of blue body with yellow ends. Sometime after August 26 1972 it was repainted in blue body with yellow warbonnet. In November 1983 the San Bernardino CA shops rebuilt the unit as an SD45u and renumbered it ATSF 5372. Before April 17 1994 it was retired, sold to Morrison Knudsen, renumbered MKCX 5372 and leased to Santa Fe. On August 22 1995 its reporting marks were changed to MKMX. Between May 1996 and early 1997 it was sold to Helm Financial and leased to Burlington Northern Santa Fe with HLCX reporting marks but no BNSF road number. It was returned to Helm before and stored at Boise Locomotive Co., Boise ID, in January 1999. In March 2000 it was acquired by Motive Power Industries and scrapped at an unknown date. My photo.
