Remarks & Notes |
A westbound manifest crosses the huge Baltimore & Ohio Susquehanna River Bridge approaching Havre de Grace, Maryland. Located near the mouth of the river and its entrance to the Chesapeake Bay, the B&O’s route required a structure that was some 6109 feet long to connect Havre de Grace and Perryville, making it the longest bridge on the B&O system. The far shore seen here is Garrett Island; another out-of-sight river channel separates the island and Perryville. Only about half of the bridge can be seen in this late afternoon view. |
