Westbound NS U53, led by Conrail 5415, rolls out of a canopy of trees into the sunlight at ex-Interstate Railroad MP 13, also designated as JANE in association with Track Warrant Control (TWC) dispatching. The name "JANE" was derived from the fact that through the 1940s and 1950s, a small gas station, located a short distance to the right, was run by a bootlegger simply called "Aunt Jane." On the rare occasions that a customer stopped and actually wanted to buy gas, she reportedly often stated: "Gas! Gas! Gas my ass! Why don't you buy some liquor!." U53 left Norton Yard with 6 loads and 13 empties. A few miles further west, the crew will pull the loads and leave the 13 empties at the Blackwood No. 1 loader at Blackwood, Virginia. After working Blackwood No. 1, the crew will continue westward to the ex-IRR's Andover Yard.
