A late Amtrak 4 scurries through the rural community of Scranton on the original stretch of Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe mainline from Topeka to Emporia, built between 1868 and 1870. Present day BNSF is in the middle of upgrading the Topeka Sub to CTC and as a result, a majority of the Santa Fe era signalling infrastructure, including the pole line, will be lost to progress.
The GE Genesis series are well known for being Amtrak's locomotive. With confirmation of retirement from Amtrak themselves, their time is limited. Now is your chance to catch them before the chargers arrive!
