BNSF 5755 leads a westbound unit-sand train bound for the expanding oil field facility in Wellington, Utah. The 79 car 11,000+ ton train has the assistance of two DPUs on the rear (SD70ACE+Citrail ES44AC). These heavy sand trains usually have just barely enough power to crawl up the 2% grade of the Moffat Tunnel Subdivision, today was no exception with crew telling another BNSF train they were not making very good speed due to the SD70mac on the train.
The weather was gorgeous approaching 70 degrees, but weather changes fast in the Rockies, by 9 pm snow would be falling and the the next morning this scene would be covered by 6 inches of new snow!
