A northbound Fox River Valley Railroad freight passes a dairy farm between Campbellsport and Eden, Wisconsin, on March 25, 1990. Three of FRVR’s six-axle locomotives pull the train—the pair of EMD SD24s, Nos. 2401 and 2402, and still hidden behind the barn, the railroad’s sole former Southern Railway SD35 No. 2500. This portion of the C&NW’s “Air Line” from Milwaukee to Fond du Lac (and eventually Green Bay) is abandoned from just south of West Bend to Eden and is now the Eisenbahn State Trail.
The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
