Making the best of sadness. The history of this spot is most famously known for the tragic events of May 8, 1974, when the bridge that now carries the Walkway Over The Hudson used to carry trains for the Penn Central Railroad. A fire broke out at just after 1300 that made the structure unstable, and caused the NE-74 of that day to be the final train to cross the span. But when the Walkway opened on October 3, 2009, it was repurposed as a park and now carries pedestrians to each side of the Hudson River, giving some practical use to this engineering marvel of its day. This sunset view from February 2, 2018, was taken from the Poughkeepsie side of the bridge looking towards Highland, NY.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
