Stainless Steel Returns to Woodford. Amtrak's detouring northbound Coast Starlight, already running over 4 hours late following a Metrolink trespasser strike in the San Fernando Valley, pounds the north switch at Woodford as it approaches the horseshoe curve between Woodford and Rowen. Once home to a rather bustling community with a store, corral, the Kern County Tubercular Sanatorium "Stoneybrook Retreat," a train station and three 50,000 gallons water tanks that were used to feed four separate water columns for thirsty steam locomotives - Woodford today is merely just a siding on Union Pacific's Mojave Subdivision. A handful of residents still live here at Woodford, with water for their homes brought in via truck that's then pumped into a pair of large water tanks located at the center of the siding.
