Midway between the apex of Horseshoe Curve and MG Interlocking, an SD45/SD40 helper duo lends a strong assist to symbol freight PG-3 as it climbs the mountain on No.3 track in McGinley's Curve. There were still plenty of friction bearing equipped cars in the fleet, and jointed rail was common. Somehow, for those used to the scene, the rear-end of a train still does not look right without a cabin car, such as the PRR N5C in Pennsy's focal orange paint. Photo No. 709242 shows the head-end of this train.
Either a freight train being helped over a steep grade or a long passenger or freight train requiring more engines. This album includes Helpers and double heading trains of the old days both steam and diesel.
