I knew I was way ahead of PO-74 when I arrived in Pocono Summit on 10/28 so I hiked the short walk up to the lake (staying well clear of the ROW). I had heard that it was easy to walk along the lake bank there, but I think recent rains had made that perch more than soggy and even pretty deeply in the woods I was doing my best not to step in six-inch deep water. Still, I managed to clear away some branches to give me a great view, but that also let me see that the railhead shadow was along the side of the rail (meaning I was all setup for an ugly high-sun shot). So after all my gardening (or foresting) I made my way back to a spot for a nose-on shot as the sun demanded. Actually ended up pretty happy wit those.
I made a disasterous error next when I decided based on the consist that the train wasn't going farther than Pocono Summit. Later I learned not only did they go to Cresco, but all the way to Slateford Jct. Oh well. Next time.
Don Colangelo, retired CMO (and sometimes piano player) at the DL Scranton shops cared for the many ALCOs, MLWs and a few EMDs that passed in and out of South Scranton and Von Storch shop doors.
Here is a look and many of those units.
