The Brightliners last shining moment. On the chilly afternoon of November 23, 2012, Budd built MTA New York City Transit Subway R32 3575 (Morrison-Knudsen GE/WABCO rebuild, Budd 1964) leads a four car train at Beach 60 St-Straiton Avenue. After Hurricane Sandy, R32s were moved to the Rockaway by truck, serving the "H" shuttle line with these short consists between Beach 90 St and Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue while repairs were made to the infrastructure of the rest of the line. As of April 27, 2020, this class of car will be officially stricken from the active passenger roster, a move triggered by the arrival of the completed order of the R-179s. Perhaps their most famous moment was on September 9, 1964, when 3352 lead from New York Central's Mott Haven Yard to Grand Central on the ceremonial first (and never repeated) trip, with their subway debut five days later.
