MILW SD40-2 no. 200 is parked at the Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific yard on Duluth's west end on a rainy October afternoon in 1982. The unit is in run through service with CN and CN subsidiary is trying to purchase MILW. Working for C&NW at the time, we fought hard to prevent this and succeeded only to lose the MILW to Soo Line, a blessing in disguise for C&NW. It took until 1985, but after that everything was focused on a marriage with UP, which took another decade. Meantime, DWP departed this facility by 1985, building a new yard along the Missabe south of Superior, WI. CN fully absorbed GTW/DWP and took over Missabe and Wis. Central to extend its mainline into Chicago from western Canada.
