Fillmore & Western Railway No. 3501, an ex-Pennsylvania Railroad GP 35, sways to and fro with an accompanying F7 as the two units lead "The Safety Train" east toward the town of Fillmore. Owned and operated by the The Firefighters Education and Training Foundation, this specialized six-car train includes various representative tank cars, a boxcar that contains a classroom inside and a protective housing flat car. The train was designed to enable delivery of best-in-class, hands-on training for local community emergency responders along chemical transportation routes. CSX (who took over the role from Conrail) was a major supporter of the safety train program when it began in the late 1990’s - hence the paint scheme on these cars reflecting that found on their locomotives. The train is currently being stored in Fillmore until its next call to service.
