Scenic on the Adirondack. P42DC 195 leads Amtrak Train 68 (Adirondack) on October 28, 2018, making the station stop at the then brand new platform in Schenectady, New York. After serving the Great Northern railroad and Auto-Train, Dome Lounge 10031 (Ocean View, Budd, 1955) would become a rotating feature on Amtrak trains, including the Cardinal, Coast Starlight, Pacific Surfliner, and the Reno Fun Train. But its final days were spent on the run between Albany-Renssealer, New York and Montreal, Quebec. Not long after this photo, the car would be removed from service and sold.
The Adirondack follows both the Hudson and the Lake Champlain shoreline on its leisurely trip between New York and Montreal. When it started, it was pulled by beautiful ALCO PAs purchased by Delaware & Hudson second-hand from the Santa Fe.
