On Saturday, December 26, 2020, Pan Am Railways PLED from Plainville, CT to East Deerfield, MA, made a daylight run over Amtrak’s Springfield Line. Trains EDPL and PLED are normally nocturnal runs due to the daily commuter trains that traverse the line. The pair of former CSX B40-8s with tonnage for East Deerfield yard, passes over the high swift-flowing waters of the Connecticut River. A snowstorm a week before and then warmer temperatures with heavy rain resulted in rapid melting, causing the river to rise above its flood stage.
