For the first time since November of 2019 (well, technically the 2nd time if I’m being honest), Southern 630 departs East Chattanooga on the point of a revenue train. After undergoing an extensive capbolt inspection in the first half of 2020, the reduction in operations due to Covid forced the 630 to be parked for the remainder of the year. After over of week of testing & working out any remaining issues, the engine delights riders & railfans alike on the opening weekend of steam operations, sporting a new paint job along with the addition of my personal favorite whistle in the TVRM collection, a Virginia & Southwestern longbell 3 chime, after an extended campaign on my part to get it back on. The sight & sound of seeing this under its own power again was a welcomed highlight after having a role in helping to conduct the inspection.
