Amtrak's sleek Acela makes a high speed pass through Levittown, PA, passing the station while en route to 30th Street Station in Philadelphia.
The inaugural VIP run of the Acela occurred on November 16, 2000, with the first revenue run on December 11, 2000, a few months after the intended date. Built between 1998–2001, the 20 Bombardier built veterans will soon be replaced with 28 Avelia Liberty trainsets built by Alstom. The Avelia Liberty's, or "Acela II's" will be longer (9 cars vs 6), have 386 seats compared to 304 on Acela Express (a 27% increase) and will feature active tilt technology that will initially allow service to operate at 160 mph.
