Like Stopping In A Tunnel. When the Times Square Station was opened to the public on October 27, 1904, it was a local stop, having only recently renamed from Long Acre Square. When the Grand Central Shuttle was opened, Track 2 was filled in as a platform for Track 3 at the Times Square Station. The recent renovations altered the configuration from a 4 car train and two 3 car trains to two 6 car trains. On Monday, September 13, 2021, MTA NYCT Subway R-62A 1965 leads into the “north” end of the shuttle, with platform work complete and full service restored.
