Under threatening skies, Amtrak's latest Phase I Anniversary Heritage unit, the AMTK 161, looks sharp between runs while receiving work at Redondo Junction locomotive facility. The 2001-product of GE recently struck something that resulted in some moderate damage to the nose of the specially painted unit. This required the local shop forces to place a new, standard painted plow on and replace the HEP electrical cables on the engineer's side of the nose. While these repairs were relatively easily to make, the lower section of the carbon fiber nose that was damaged will take a little more work. In the background, the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society's (SBRHS) new tool car and famed star, Santa Fe 3751, wait for their next chance to take to the high iron.
