BNSF Railway Officer Special O-SDGLAC9-13A is about ten-miles into its trip from San Diego to Los Angeles (technically it terminates at Commerce, just a few miles from downtown LA) as it carries its passengers, consisting of executives at many of the railway’s larger shippers (UPS, FedEx, Amazon, JB Hunt, etc.), along with BNSF executives (including CEO Kathryn Farmer) north to attend the Super Bowl. (Or, at least, watch it on the train’s many TVs. Nah … they’re going to the game.). A pair of the Railway’s ten 25tth Anniversary engines, ES44ACs 5828 and 6163, will have no problems pulling this 16-car train, seen here climbing Rose Canyon through Elvira toward Miramar, and then it is all downhill to the beach in Del Mar for miles of running along the Pacific Ocean. Miramar Hill isn’t the highest point on the old Santa Fe "Surf Line," but it is the steepest grade. (San Diego, California – February 13, 2022)
