Big changes at Waumbek Tank. If you've ever ridden on the Mt. Washington Cog Railway in the past, then you're no doubt familiar with the Waumbek Water Tank about 1 mile from the Base Station and 1,000 vertical feet above it. But, you're probably used to seeing just the tank and the track. Well, in 2022, with the Cog Railway now running winter trips to Waumbek, they needed some destination facilities, so people could actually get off the train and enjoy the view. For that, they've created Waumbek STATION. Yes, there is now a multi-tiered platform with spacious shelter facilities adjacent to the water tank, so folks can get off the train, find shelter and stay (semi) warm. Long time fans of The Cog may also note some differences in Waumbek Tank. Although the old tank itself has been preserved, the base platform has been beefed up considerably and moved a bit farther from the track. No longer will the brakemen have to caution passengers about the close clearance outside the windows on the left side of the train. Things definitely are a changing on the slopes of Mt. Washington.
