“Lonely Survivor” The Western Maryland Railway freight station in York, shown here on April 21, 1984, was built in 1896 for WM precursor Baltimore & Harrisburg Railway Company. The J.A. Dempwolf-designed head house (the two-story brick office building) still stands on North George Street at Codorus Creek. After years of disuse, it was purchased in 2011 by Kinsley Properties, and restored by Kinsley Construction in 2019-2020. No such luck for the freight warehouse extending from the west side, which, after suffering storm damage, was demolished in October 2007.
