Burlington Northern Railroad's local heads west on the Saint Francis Line, past the old grain elevator in the "ghost town" (as the locals call it) of Marion. A trio of Morrison-Knudson GP39Ms (rebuilt GP30s), BN 2826, 2802 and 2816, are the power for this autumn afternoon’s train, which is 57 miles into its 134-mile trip from Orleans NE to St. Francis KS. This trip will take all day, and there are a lot of elevators along the line that need to be switched. BN 2826 was originally Chicago Burlington & Quincy GP30 955. (Marion, Nebraska – September 1991)
