Happy 75th! On September 17, 1948, the New York Central's first "20th Century Limited" with new streamlined equipment left Grand Central Terminal for Chicago, Illinois. The "Creek" series of observation/slpr/lounge cars were similar to the order of cars from Budd, but featured larger windows to give better views of the "Water Level Route". On September 17, 2023, the United Railroad Historical Society of NJ, the current owner of the "Hickory Creek" (RPCX 800733), operated an excursion and added this car and a slpr to Amtrak Train 49 (Lake Shore Limited), the modern day descendent of that premium class of service. The train is seen crossing the Spuyten Duyvil Bridge on the Amtrak Empire Corridor, spanning the Harlem River from Manhattan to the Bronx, New York.
