The last operation of its kind in the continental US. NYNJ Rail's carfloat operation between Brooklyn, NY and Greenville, NJ plies an almost forgotten railroading segment, operating a carfloat across New York Harbor. Such operations were once numerous in the earlier 20th Century in several US cities. The carfloat still provides a meaningful freight link between New York and New Jersey, operating most weekdays, and sometimes making two runs if traffic warrants. Tug Marjorie B. McAlester is appropriately powered by a pair of EMD 645 powerplants, and has been assigned to this duty for some time now.
