Stainless Steel Special.
New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) R11 car no. 8013 (Budd, 1949) is seen on display at the New York Transit Museum in the former Court St Station in Downtown Brooklyn. The car is the sole survivor of the 10 R11 cars built; the original order was for 400 cars, but the cancellation of the Second Avenue Subway construction negated the need for additional rolling stock. Among other new features included in these cars, they are notable as being the first stainless steel cars built for the New York City Subway under an R-type contract.
